Dear Friends and Family,
Hello from Cambodia and Happy New Year!
World missions Summit Update!
From December 30, 2008 to January 1, 2009 Troy was able to attend the World Missions Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is an event for college students sponsored by Chi Alpha and Assemblies of God World Missions. Almost 4000 students from universities and colleges across the country came together with missionaries from around the world to learn about opportunities for short term missions work. The theme was "it's up to me" and centered around the challenge to "give a year, and pray about a lifetime."
It was truly a blessing to see thousands of college age students raising their hands and praising God together! On the last day of the event over 850 students stepped out and made a commitment to working overseas with missionaries to change the world! Please continue to pray with us that God would continue to raise up a new generation and call more laborers into the harvest from among these students.
Nara & Grandpa Choy go into the Studio!
This coming Tuesday we will begin recording 26 new episodes of "Nara & Grandpa Choy", our children's radio program. These new episodes have been targeted to specifically address key issues that have been identified as barriers to the gospel among Cambodian Buddhists.
With more than 40% of Cambodia's population under the age of 14 it becomes clear that the key to reaching the country with the good news lies in reaching Cambodia's children. Because of that, we are doing more than just a radio program; we are building an entire 6 month Sunday School curriculum around the program. We want to see a generation rise up who will turn Cambodia around for the Kingdom of God!
You can pray with us for this project in a number of ways. First, beginning this coming Tuesday, and for the next month or so, we will be doing the principle recording of these new episodes; pray that the Holy Spirit would anoint all we do and all would go smoothly. Second, Lisa and another missionary are currently preparing the curriculum that will go with the program; please pray that God would lead and direct each step in the development process. And third, we are still looking for funding for this project. The entire project, including all production costs, radio broadcast cost and reproduction of 1000 copies of the finished product, will run about $60,000. Although that seems like a lot, it works out to about $60 for a complete 6 month curriculum, and if you have ever purchased Sunday School curriculum you will realize how cheap this actually is. We have begun production with what funds we have available right now, believing that God will supply what we lack at the necessary time (we hope to have the material finished and ready for reproduction by the end of July). Please pray that these funds would come in quickly so that we can get these materials into the hands of the Cambodian church as quickly as possible.
We Are On Facebook!
Finally, we have recently gotten set up on Facebook. You can find both Troy (Facebook name: Troy Tabor) and Lisa (Facebook name: Lisa Snell Tabor). We would love to hear from you there! If you would like to connect with us there, please include a note on your friend request that you receive our e-mail update so that we can recognize you.
